Freebies Inspired by Grand Marais, MN

Because we live in Grand Marais, MN, part of each year several of my blog posts are inspired from teachers, authors, and nature in that area.  Here are links to my blog posts and they all include free resources for teachers.

Phyllis Root wrote and Betsy Bowen illustrated a non-fiction picture book entitled, THE BIG BELCHING BOG. This free printable could be used with or without the book, although it would be nice to have the book on hand.  This is the link to the blog post, or click on the picture below for the PDF (opens here).

I visited Sue Butter’s classroom at Great Expectations School in Grand Marais.  She was teaching about magnets and so I was inspired to make a free printable other teachers could use, as well.  This is the link to the blog post, or click on the photo below for the free PDF which opens right here. Magnetic Rock is not that far from Grand Marais.

I was able to visit Kathryn Pederson Nelson’s 7th and 8th grade multi-age class at Great Expectations, also.  At the post you will find two free printables.  Click on the photo for one of them, the jigsaw puzzle for establishing a positive class community in the fall.

Grand Marais has an art gallery which is one of the historical society sites, the Johnson Heritage Post.  It may be difficult to keep children engaged while visiting art galleries, so here is a post with a few suggestions for parents.  Or, click on the photo below for a PDF of questions to ask to converse with children about art (at any any gallery or museum).

Next is a Minnesota Bingo game with art from Philip Martin, who kindly allowed me to use his great art since this is a freebie.  If you teach Minnesota lessons, it would be fun to have on hand.  This is the link to the blog post.  And/or click on the photo below to get the bingo game with 24 cards for your class or scout group.

We participated in a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) plan during the summer of 2014.  The Good Nature Farm had weekly fresh produce for us, and I ended up making 3 part cards with foldable pockets for a free printable.  Read the blog post here, or click on the photo below to open the PDF right here.

On another visit to Sue Butter’s Kindergarten I was inspired to make a free math printable after watching her class work on math skills. This is the link to the blog post about her wonderful class. The PDF opens right here.

information photo with pictures of pages in the printableGrand Marais has rugged rocks and shoreline.  One day I walked with Sue Butter’s class down to the shore of Lake Superior, and a free rocks printable was the end result.  This is the link to the blog post, or click on the photo for the free printable. She has an iPad for her class, so this printable uses QR Codes.
