Zack's AlligatorZack’s Alligator

by Shirley Mozelle, illustrated by James Watts

Do you have an adventurous reader at your house? This post has a short review of Zack’s Alligator and a free work page with answer key. This story is so wonderful because at some point almost every child has wished a toy animal would come to life.  The parents don’t realize the alligator does come to life, even though the mailman says he won’t return and the policeman suggests Zack get a leash for it.  Zack and the alligator have lots of fun, and tomorrow it will all begin again when Zack goes to school (see a partial reading of that book, below).

This is an easy reader and although it is not a chapter book, it is long enough to impress a child who won’t read baby books anymore!  The alligator is a girl (Bridget) which will help engage the young female reader, too.
