This is a photo of a garden near Tokyo. Tokyo is the capital of Japan. The free instant downloads are both in SMART Board and Power Point format.
Here is a free Japan A to Z SMART board presentation and the same lesson in Power Point. My daughter visited Japan last fall and kindly gave me permission to use her photos in the post and presentations. The interactive slides give an overview of some important facts and information about Japan, and there is a free student work page PDF and teacher answer key. The presentation could be used with ages K-5. For K-1, perhaps just show the slides, discuss, read Suki’s Kimono, and show the pocket chart cards to learn some vocabulary. For Grades 2 up, select different printables within the Power Point/SMART Board presentation, and use what is best for your class. I recommend Suki’s Kimono for K-1, The Boy in the Garden for 2-3, and The Big Wave for grades 4 and 5. All are attached to the presentation. Here is a zip folder with everything, too.
I have already blogged about the children’s books PDFs that are stories based in Japan or have something related. Here are the books I included in the presentation, and a one more with Japanese themes. All have free PDFs to accompany them:
1. Suki’s Kimono, free PDF
2. The Boy in the Garden, by Allen Say, free PDF
3. The Big Wave by Pearl S. Buck, free PPt and Google Slides
Not included in the presentations but available on this blog:
4. The Night of the Fireflies, by Karen B. Winnick, illustrated by Yoriko Ito
Please do not post these things on your blog, upload them to sharing sites, or claim them as your own. Thank you. Carolyn

Hi! I came across your TpT store and blog today. I saw on your TpT store that you are from Maple Grove and so am I! I haven’t found many MN teacher bloggers so I was excited. Stop by my blog sometime!

Thank you so much for the opportunity to share on your top educational blog. Carolyn
Carolyn, I love the way you’ve set up the Japan PPt and Smartboard, they both have so much information and beautiful pictures. I can’t wait to try them in my class. Your knowledge of the world is a true asset to your wonderful teaching ability! Thanks, Heidi
